Love’s Little Secrets: Found in a Facebook Post
I was scrolling on Facebook for a few minutes and stopped on a post a friend had shared. The post had two photos of an older dog. The dog, named Moon, looked like the sweetest soul in the world. You could see where her dark fur had turned grey, especially around the nose and eyes.
The first image showed Moon on the beach, her owners had put her on a little pile of bedding, draping a blanket over her. The second photo showed her lying next to a cake that said 22. Twenty-two years speaks to a full life for a dog. (Though us pet parents would love to have many, many more.)
As I scanned over the caption, which mentioned how Moon was ill and her human family had brought her to her favorite spot on the beach (where she was always happiest) one more time before she passed over to Animal Paradise, this overwhelming feeling came over me.
At first, it felt like immense sadness, but then it turned to longing… longing that somehow I could help Moon jump and run on the beach like she must have in done so many times in her prime. A dog I didn’t know, but instantly loved.
Then that longing turned to deep respect and awe over the intense love that her family must have for her that they brought her out to the beach to make Moon happy before she departed this world for the other side.
As my eyes got all misty, I was flooded with that love. The love that Moon’s family felt for her, the love she felt for them, and just the awesome love our creator has put in the universe. It’s so much, how can you contain it? It’s so beautiful and awe-inspiring.
Then I thought, it’s all about being happy, isn’t it? They loved their dog so much, they brought her to a place that would make her happy. It reminded me of when my mother passed away a few years ago. I wished she could have come to my home in the months prior (had we known in time) and sat on the back porch and felt a soft, energizing breeze, heard the birds signing, watched the squirrels scampering…. I had that longing to make her happy. I wished so hard for that.
Wanting to bring joy and happiness is really an act of pure love. Not only for the person you want to make happy, but for yourself. So, you can also share in the love that comes from seeing a smile on their face and feeling their joy-filled energy. It’s a feeling so big that it can’t be bottled.
One little Facebook post had the secrets of the universe wrapped inside it. The biggest of those is that love is there, all around you. You only need to be present and notice.
It’s there when a squirrel comes up every day and drinks water out of a little bowl you set out. It’s there when your best friend surprises you with a huge bouquet of balloons they begged off a fancy event, just to cheer you up.
And it’s there when you pick up a little toy for your children while out shopping, just so you can see their faces light up when you surprise them. You want to make them happy.
Happiness is connected to love and it’s the best feeling in the world. No wonder we all long to share that in little and big acts all the time. Keep on spreading those little moments of joy! Never stop happying up the world!
PS: Here’s that heartwarming post I saw, if you’d like to see it.
